In villages across Oaxaca, Mexico, women are engaged in creating the most colorful and elaborate embroidered and woven textiles for many uses, from clothing to rugs to satchels and more. These activities define their sense of being with purpose and beauty, and for some, even some financial independence unknown in most of Mexico. Consuelo embodies the confidence of her role as an elder in her community. Her face reveals her strength and pride; her hands reveal her story.
All hand painted pieces, raw edge applique, pieced, hand embroidered, free motion machine stitched and embroidered, cottons, bamboo batting.
